What Is Proof Finder?In December 2011, Nuix released a software product called Proof Finder. It is a philanthropic venture to raise money for a fabulous and worthwhile charity, Room to Read. Our original aim was to raise $100,000 by giving individuals and companies the chance to access the power of Nuix for a fraction of the normal price, with 100% of their payment going to this charity. Why are you selling Proof Finder for $100 per year, when your other products start in the thousands?Proof Finder is a philanthropic software offering which enables Nuix to give back to both the legal and investigation community and also to help children in the developing world. As a successful global business, we believe we have a responsibility to do this.With Proof Finder, investigators and lawyers all over the world have the chance to buy the most advanced electronic discovery and investigative technology to help them solve their puzzles and crimes. Even though the size of their investigations might be small in terms of Nuix’s normal application, it can still be incredibly difficult to find evidence without good eDiscovery and electronic investigation technology. Lawyers and investigators will be able to quickly find proof regarding a range of issues, including fraud, inappropriate behaviour and images, child abuse and intellectual property leaks. Because of our position of having created such advanced eDiscovery and electronic investigation software, we have an opportunity to help real people with real problems that would never be solved without the application of technology. We have priced Proof Finder at just $100 per year to remove the barriers for this community. How does Proof Finder compare to other Nuix solutions?While Proof Finder does not have the same processing power of Nuix's enterprise offerings, it processes data at between 2-6 GB per hour, depending on the user’s hardware configuration and has significant search capability. This processing speed is still an order of magnitude faster than most forensic investigation toolsets that are sold for many thousands of dollars, while also providing Nuix's unparalleled ability to search text, metadata images, deleted and encrypted data as well as files which have been modified to hide their identity. What will Nuix do with the $100?Nuix donates 100% of the payment for every Proof Finder license sold to Room to Read. Nuix absorbs all of the transaction costs incurred in processing the payment as well as support, training and administration costs. Rather than distributing small amounts of money to a number of organizations, Nuix has chosen to support a single non-profit organization which is profoundly changing the world by educating children. However, it is a perfect solution for individuals who need to undertake small (sub 15GB) investigations and it could also be used to expand the number of people in an organization who use Nuix, simply by keeping the quantum of data that needs to be reviewed to under 15GB and utilizing Nuix Enterprise's "sub-case export" functionality. What products does this compete with in the marketplace?Nuix is not trying to compete with anyone in the market for this product. The small case/individual lawyer and investigator community is a group which is underserviced and mostly ignored by the commercial marketplace. This is largely because they are hard to identify and in general they have significant budget limitations for technology. Why are you giving all of the proceeds to charity?Because we can. Nuix has hundreds of customers in over 35 countries, many of whom are large and successful public and private organizations. It is very important to the management and employees of Nuix that we find ways to care for the communities we exist within and also to find ways to make the world a better and smarter place – to play our part in changing lives for the better. Proof Finder gives us the chance to do both, and we are both passionate and proud of the product and what it has achieved since we launched in December 2011. Is this a hidden introductory price offer?No, Proof Finder is just $100/year and we are committed to a $100 price point for the foreseeable future, and also to this being a product that raises money for charity. All people who purchase Proof Finder (or who have purchased in the past) will be able to repurchase Proof Finder when their 12 month license expires for $100. What happens if a user goes over the 15GB file size?Proof Finder will not work on file sizes above 15GB. When the case size limit is reached Proof Finder will display a message screen which will indicate that the user has exceeded the threshold and will not open the case. To use the data a user would need to index a smaller amount of data. I am an HR manager or an investigator in a larger company. Is Proof Finder right for me?If the quantities of data you are investigating are under 15GB and the evidence is in the data set, you will be able to find what you are looking for with Proof Finder quickly and easily. If you have larger cases greater than 15GB, you should speak to a Nuix expert to help you define your requirements. Who uses Nuix software?Nuix is a worldwide provider of information management technologies, including eDiscovery, electronic investigation and information governance software. Does the purchase of Proof Finder include a tax deductive donation receipt since the proceeds are going to charity?Unfortunately not. The reason is that people are actually purchasing the license and Nuix is making the $100 charitable donation on their behalf. What is the Proof Finder License?
What happens after one year?Proof Finder will stop working after 12 months when the license expires. To continue using the software, receiving software updates and to have access to technical support, users will need to repurchase their license for $100. The software has an inbuilt reminder mechanism that will alert you of pending expiry, plus the license holder will be contacted by email prior to the expiration of the software to remind them. How is the training delivered?A series of demonstration and training videos are on the Proof Finder website training page. Can you give me some use cases for where Proof Finder would be useful?Law enforcement: An ever increasing number of cases revolve around data that has been seized through the collection or forensic imaging of laptops and hard drives. Law enforcement members are particularly burdened with email investigations. Proof Finder provides a simple way for users and investigators to interact with individual people’s files very quickly, through a simple yet powerful user interface. Lawyers: Proof Finder gives lawyers the ability to interact with their clients’ data on their desktop. A client may come in and hand over their case data, and within a matter of an hour or two, using Proof Finder, the lawyer could easily undertake an initial early case assessment. Proof Finder would enable a lawyer to become intimate with the case and case data in the shortest possible time. This would include not just the text, but also the metadata, which often identifies what is true from what is false. It is a great way for lawyers to start to get used to eDiscovery technology as a powerful and strategic tool in their legal strategy. In a Deposition: Where the person being deposed is using internet mail, Proof Finder would allow for the web based mail account to be harvested on the spot, by connecting to the internet and downloading the Gmail/yahoo/Hotmail data. All of the mail could be processed and made searchable in minutes. This has recently been used very successfully in employee disputes. Company investigation: Whether the smallest or largest company, if you need to investigate one or two PST (email) files along with some electronic documentation for any number of issues (pornography, intellectual property leaks, fraud, inappropriate behaviour) – Proof Finder will enable you to find the evidence if it exists in the data set. My Proof Finder License is not activating my software, what do I do?We have noticed some people having issues once they receive their Proof Finder license key and they attempt to activate their software. We believe this to be issues with different mail systems removing parts of our email. When you paste your key into the registration window please double check that it has the following format:

What happens if a case goes over the 15GB limit?Nuix calculates the size of a case as the fully expanded size once all documents have been extracted from compression files, such as .zip files. Proof Finder will not work on expanded file sizes above 15GB. When the case size limit is reached, Proof Finder will display a message which will indicate that the user has exceeded the threshold and Proof Finder will not open the case. What does 15GB of data look like?Proof Finder has the capacity to investigate up to 15GB per case. For one payment of $100 you can undertake as many cases of up to 15GB of expanded (uncompressed) data per case as you like for one year. As a guide this means you can process and search between 80,000 and 350,000 emails - excluding containers or system files - per case. Older data sets will typically be smaller than current ones. This is however only a guide. The number of emails and items in the 15GB will depend largely on factors such as data type, compression of data, attachments in emails, and many other factors. Click here for more information. How many cores is Proof Finder licensed for?Proof Finder 2 is a basic dual-core license. Can purchasers try before they buy?No. We are developing a number of demo videos on this site for you to view, and we will be running regular webinars to demonstrate the tool and train people in how to make best use of it in their investigations. Does the product come with a dongle?No, once a purchaser has downloaded Proof Finder and paid for it, a license key will be automatically generated through our system and emailed to you. This license key is connected with the computer you will use Proof Finder on. The license is not transferable to another computer or another user. How do I get upgrades?Nuix is constantly upgrading its software and Proof Finder customers may want to upgrade to the latest release. I haven’t been emailed my license key after purchase, what do I do?Your Proof Finder license key should be emailed to you within 30 minutes of purchasing to the email address you supplied. Please check your spam filter in your email program in the first instance if your email fails to arrive. What happens if I change my system clock?Proof Finder is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. If your machine's system clock is turned backwards prior to the time you last logged in during this 12-month period, you will receive an error message telling you that your license is not valid. What if my computer that has Proof Finder installed fails during my license period?As this is a charity initiative, should your machine fail or be reassigned, your license will no longer be valid as it is only issued to that machine. It is advisable that this situation is planned for as much as possible. How do I create a set of system diagnostics to provide to technical support?To create System Diagnostics within Proof Finder, click Help > System Diagnostics and save the .zip file created. Can Proof Finder decrypt encrypted files?Proof Finder can find and identify encrypted documents and often extract metadata but is not able to decrypt encrypted files. Can I open Proof Finder cases with other Nuix licenses?If you are currently a Nuix customer you will not be able to open any Proof Finder cases with any other normal Nuix license unless it is audited. Can I install Proof Finder on a Virtual Machine?Proof Finder can be installed and used on a virtual machine (VM) as long as the configuration of the VM is static during the license period of Proof Finder. By ensuring your VM is configured as desired with cores and memory prior to installing Proof Finder it will ensure that there is no change in machine ID which will invalidate your Proof Finder license.
